Lily Ann Divino ’93, a social worker and rape crisis coordinator at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center in N.Y., will give a talk as part of the Katherine A. Henry ’86 Memorial Lecture Series.
Divino will examine the impact of sexual violence from a public health perspective. Using an ecological model, she will demonstrate how multiple systems (family, community, society) influence individual human behavior specific to sexual violence. She will review specific tools to assess the root causes and risk factors and to increase the capacity of a population to address sexual violence. She will discuss the dynamics of power and control in relationships and assumptions around gender and sexuality. She will provide an overview of current evidence-based interventions and movements to prevent sexual violence.
Divino's work focuses on sexual violence, domestic violence, teen relationship abuse, adolescent health and mental health. She is the 2012 recipient of the Lydia Martinez Multidisciplinary Collaboration Award for Rape Crisis Professional from the New York Alliance Sexual Assault. She is co-founder and board member for the Kalusugan Coalition, Inc., a multidisciplinary collaboration, to improve the health of the Filipino community in New York City and New Jersey.
