Judge Richard J. Leon, has served as a federal trial judge for the District of Columbia since 2002.  A 1971 graduate of Holy Cross, Judge Leon went on to earn law degrees from Suffolk and Harvard law schools before becoming a law professor at St. John's Law School.  Prior to his judgeship, he held various legal positions within the Justice Department and on Capital Hill investigating the Iran-Contra and Whitewater scandals.  During his nearly 16 years on the bench, he has heard some of the nation's most controversial cases, including several raising novel national security issues on detainee treatment and the NSA's bulk collection program.

From his time here as student and member of the varsity lacrosse team, to today when he serves as a popular speaker for our Washington Semester students, it's clear that Judge Leon bleeds purple.  We are honored to welcome him back to Mount St. James one of our own and a lifelong friend of Holy Cross.
