Brooks Concert Hall

The Department of Music is delighted to host guest composer Tania León for a tribute concert to her music featuring performances by the College Choir, artists-in-residence, and others. Born in Havana, Cuba, Tania Léon is highly regarded for her accomplishments as a composer, conductor, educator, and advisor to arts organizations. A cofounder of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, she has played important roles in leading institutions, such as the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the American Composers Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She was named Distinguished Professor Emeritus of CUNY in 2006 and has been the subject of profiles on ABC, CBS, CNN, PBS, and Univision. “Cultural clash is at the core of music by the composer Tania León…Naturally, these distinctive styles clash in her music, though in a dynamic sense, as in a good fight, a feisty confrontation.” Anthony Tommasini – The New York Times
