Matthew Pinder’s Stations of the Cross

Featuring Holy Cross Orchestra, Mike Monaghan & Guests

Brooks Concert Hall

The world premiere of Fenwick Scholar Matthew Pinder’s work Stations of the Cross. The core of Pinder’s Fenwick project, this hour-long work is written in 14 movements in a concertante style for string quartet, soprano saxophone, and orchestra. As the Fenwick Scholar, Matthew is spending the entirety of his senior year creating this work. The creative process involves composing music while researching the Stations of the Cross and the musical narratives of the orchestral Passion, in order to render through music an artistic expression of the experience of Jesus during his journey to be crucified, exploring His sufferings and His interactions with others during the heart of the Passion. The fusion of these different parts of the project will result in a work where all artistic decisions are guided by the theology and narratives of the Stations of the Cross.
